The site contains service information beginning with model year 1994 with some earlier bulletins available. Also available are enhanced wiring diagrams, telematics information as well as WIS-net (Mercedes-Benz Workshop Information System).

Mercedes-Benz Special Tools
 
 
A full catalog of Mercedes-Benz Special Tools which are valid for USA vehicles is available free of charge and found under the MB Special Tools tab on the home page of www.startekinfo.com.
 
The Mercedes-Benz Special Tool Catalog contains descriptions, diagrams, applications and part numbers and is arranged by functional group.
 
All Mercedes-Benz Special Tools are available for purchase from any Mercedes-Benz dealer and carry a 1-year limited warranty.
 
Other limited capability tools are also available for Mercedes-Benz vehicles through Assenmacher Specialty tools (800-525-2943) and Snap-on Diagnostics (800-775-0894)
 
Mercedes-Benz Standard Service Equipment Program (SSEP)
 
A full catalog of Mercedes-Benz Equipment that has been approved for use on Mercedes-Benz vehicles is available free of charge and found under the MB Equipment tab (link named eSSEP Catalog) on the home page of www.startekinfo.com.
 
The Mercedes-Benz Standard Service Equipment Program (SSEP) is a comprehensive program that covers conventional service and maintenance equipment as well as collision, paint and body repair equipment all of which have been approved by Mercedes-Benz USA.
 
The Mercedes-Benz Standard Service Equipment Program (SSEP) is administered by SPX/DES and all contact/purchase information is contained with the eSSEP Catalog found under the MB Equipment tab (link named eSSEP Catalog) on the home page of www.startekinfo.com.
 
 
Diagnostic Tool 
 
All information in regard to Mercedes-Benz diagnostic tools is available free of charge and found under the MB Workshop Resources tab on the home page of www.startekinfo.com.
The full line of the Star Diagnosis System (factory diagnostic tool) is available for purchase by anyone in the USA or its territories.
Detailed descriptions of all diagnostic equipment as well as purchase, warranty, support, and contact information is located as described above.
The Star Diagnosis program is comprised of two main hardware platforms that run three main types of software. A description of each hardware platform and software type is described below.
Terms and conditions for purchase, support, and warranty are identical regardless of what hardware platform you choose and are outlined below.
 
Compact3
The Compact3 is the flagship of the Star Diagnosis program and has the most capabilities. It is based on a 15” touch-screen tablet type PC built specifically for DaimlerChrysler.
The hardware profile is as follows: Intel Pentium M processor, 512MB RAM, DVD Drive, 60GB Hard Disk, 15” color LCD touch screen with virtual keyboard, dual PCMCIA slots, 3 USB Ports, PS2 keyboard/mouse port, Ethernet port and standard external monitor, printer, and serial ports.
The Compact3 is WIN-XP based and runs all software via DVD Media distributed from Mercedes-Benz USA.
The software profile is as follows:
  • DAS – Diagnostic Assistance System – This is the full diagnostic system for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. All functions for diagnosis including reprogramming, configuration, initialization, fault diagnosis and guided diagnostic tests are contained within DAS.
    • All control unit software (reprogramming calibrations) is contained within the DAS software which is distributed monthly via DVD media.
    • All access and functionality required in regard the configuration via SCN Coding and/or CVN Coding is covered.
  • Coverage also includes all functions associated with older vehicles that were previously diagnosed with discontinued Hand-Held Tester (HHT).
  • WIS-NET – Workshop Information System – This is the complete workshop information system as developed by DaimlerChrysler for use in the servicing of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Contained within are installation instructions, procedures, functional and technical specifications. There is some linkage from certain procedures in DAS to respective documents in WIS.
  • HMS990 (optional on Compact3) – This is the operating software for the optional Hermann Measurement System 990 that can be purchased for use with the Compact3. The HMS990 is an engine analyzer with capability for viewing oscilloscope patterns on all Mercedes-Benz Otto engines up to 12cyl. In addition it can be used as a universal oscilloscope for a myriad of signals. Further capabilities are possible with an optional expansion cable set.

basic2

The basic2 is smaller, more portable yet quite comprehensive diagnostic tool of the Star Diagnosis portfolio. It is based on a 10.5” touch-screen tablet type PC built for DaimlerChrysler.

There are two main differences between the basic2 and the Compact3:

  • The hardware platform is different however the diagnostic functionality and software (DAS) is identical to the Compact3
  • basic2 is not compatible with WIS-NET nor the HMS 990 Engine Analyzer. However, WIS-Net is available for use as part of a separate subscription to www.startekinfo.com. So owners of the basic2 can still access WIS-NET and many other types of information that they need just in a different format should they choose to.

The hardware profile is as follows: Intel Celeron M processor, 512MB RAM, DVD Drive, 60GB Hard Disk, 10.5” color LCD touch screen with virtual keyboard, PCMCIA slot, 3 USB Ports, PS2 keyboard/mouse port, 2 Ethernet ports and standard external monitor, printer, and serial ports

Each Compact3 and basic2 system comes with all of the following:

  • All interface cables needed for diagnosis
  • Diagnostic Multiplexer
  • Hard-sided storage case for all cables and equipment
  • Operators Manual
  • 3-year hardware warranty
  • Access to a 24 hour toll-free call center for technical support on the Star Diagnosis System hardware for operational issues/questions. (Same call center used by Mercedes-Benz dealers).
  • Access to a free loaner program should the system fail during the warranty period.
  • 1 year of monthly software updates delivered on DVD media – additional updates of software after the 1st year can be purchased at additional cost, however are not required for the system to continue functioning.

J2534 Pass-Thru

J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is available for purchase from Mercedes-Benz USA.

In order to use the J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the purchaser must furnish their own:

  • Windows based PC or laptop*
  • J2534 compliant interface box*1*

*Must be purchased from a third party company and are not available from Mercedes-Benz USA LLC.

Vehicle Coverage

J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles has coverage for all required functions associated to reprogramming, initialization, and fault clearing of emission control modules (engine and transmission) fitted to vehicles 2004 Model Year and newer. Additionally all access and functionality required in regard the configuration via SCN Coding and/or CVN Coding is covered.

J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is delivered via DVD media which is delivered monthly for the license term of one year upon purchase.

  • All control unit software (reprogramming calibrations) is contained within J2534 DVD media.

Terms and conditions

J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is purchased in 1-year license increments. During that license term the user will receive an initial software package, license key, SCN/CVN Coding information/access as well as monthly updates via DVD media.

  • Additional updates of software after the 1st year can be purchased at additional cost, however are not required for the system to continue functioning.
