Which models and model years of vehicles can be reprogrammed?
Please refer to the reprogramming matrix on the NASTF website or visit the Land Rover website at www.landrovertechinfo.com and select North American, complete the login process, then select the Home link followed by the J2534 Reprogramming Information link and open the J2534 Capabilities Matrix option.  There are no subscription costs associated with accessing this area but a registered user account is required.
How does a technician determine whether a reprogramming event is needed for a particular vehicle?
Visit the Land Rover website at www.landrovertechinfo.com and select North American, then complete the login process.
If you have previously recorded the calibration information for the vehicle then select the Home link followed by the J2534 Reprogramming Information link, open the J2534 Calibration spreadsheet and select the model, model year and system for your vehicle to display the applicable calibration information.  Look for the assembly number you had previously recorded, if this part has not been superseded then your vehicle contains the latest calibration.  If the part has been superseded then an update is required.  There are no subscription costs associated with obtaining the calibration spreadsheet but a registered user account is required.
If no previous record of the calibration information for the vehicle is held then select the Home link and using the drop down menus provided select the model and model year (the information type should be Diagnostics) and select the re-programming information option.  The J2534 Reprogramming application will then need to be downloaded and installed on a computer following the user guide instructions provided and a J2534 device obtained.  The application should then be run - it will interrogate the vehicle and check the website server to determine if an update is required and available.  If an update is available the user will have the option to proceed with it there and then.  A subscription fee must be paid to obtain the application and its operation is dependent on the subscription paid for.  It is suggested that you record the calibration information displayed by the application for further reference.
What OEM equipment is needed to reprogram vehicles?  How can the tools be obtained?
For emission related controllers the only OEM equipment that may be required is an adapter and the J2534 Capabilities Matrix mentioned above clearly indicates when it is required and the appropriate part.  The Land Rover website at www.landrovertechinfo.com contains details on how to obtain the adapter but a subscription fee must be paid to obtain this information.
For all other controllers a service tool will need to be purchased.  The Land Rover website at www.landrovertechinfo.com contains a link to IDS on the home page, or alternatively you can visit landrover.spx.com for details on the tool and how to order it.
What J2534 reprogramming capabilities are available?
The company's J2534 applications are validated using Drew Technologies CarDAQ devices although there is no reason why they shouldn't be compatible with J2534 compliant devices.  The J2534 Capabilities Matrix mentioned above clearly indicates the programming and setup capability supported for those pre-2004 MY vehicles that are not J2534 compatible and a diagnostic tool lease scheme is available to support these vehicles.  The Land Rover website at www.landrovertechinfo.com contains further details on the lease scheme offered, but a subscription fee must be paid to obtain this information.
